Well, he came close in the end, although if you can call some 400,000 singles behind “close”, well…it was never much of a race for Christmas Number 1. X-Factor, for as long as it exists, will always comandeer the top spot, end of story.
I hadn’t realised though, that Jeff Buckley had got to the top in America due to Jason Castro performing Hallelujah on American Idol. It seems 2008 has been the year of Jeff, only 11 years since he passed away, and people are just starting to discover him. Even if it is because of Simon Cowell.
Jeff would have loved the irony, surely.
