Cast your mind back 12 months, and you will remember that Santa’s early Christmas present for Liverpool fans was the news that they would be top for Christmas. In turn, Rafa Benitez claimed they have an 80% chance of winning the title come May. As we know, this never came to fruition, although they ran Man Utd pretty close.
Fast forward to the present day, and the Liverpool FC latest news is a different story althogether. Out of the Champions League, out of the Carling Cup (and probably out of the FA Cup with a tricky away tie to Reading to come in January), languishing in 6th place in the Premiership, in a scrap with Aston Villa, Spurs and Man City for 4th place. So what has happened at Liverpool?
We can blame the American owners, their sqwabbles, lack of funds available…you can blame the sale of Xabi Alonso, you can blame the ineptitude of Lucas Leiva (everyones favourite scapegoat, goat being the operative word….I know, harsh), you can blame the team selections of Rafa Benitez (still no sign of Aquilani in the starting line-up)….or are the other teams in the division simply better than Liverpool.
Either way, Liverpool fans will want the outlook to perk up in the future, or the latest Liverpool FC news could well be relegation….well they are nearer the bottom in points than they are to the top.
